Your car passed its MOT but came back with advisories. Here is exactly what they mean and how urgently you need to act.
An advisory is an item the tester noticed that is not yet bad enough to fail the vehicle but is wearing or slightly outside tolerance. The car passes with advisories — they do not affect the MOT certificate validity.
The most frequent advisories involve tyres approaching the 1.6mm legal minimum, brake pads or discs showing significant wear, minor corrosion on the bodywork or underside, and small chips in the windscreen outside the main viewing area.
A tyre advisory saying tread depth is 2mm means you could need new tyres before your next MOT. Ask the garage to explain the urgency of each advisory if you are unsure.
